A continuation of the required course for first year M.A. students designed to improve students' written command of English and to provide an introduction to intensive research as well as learning to work with other students as colleagues and fellow researchers rather than just classmates. The second year will emphasize preparation for a master's thesis, including exploration of a suitable topic, learning to do effective library research, and mastering a particular field -- whatever it may be -- in its entirety. Coursework includes a substantial annotated bibliography on the subject of each student's choosing.
